In a press release issued by Sgt. Chis Manseau on August 22, 2022, the RCMP stated at “16:30 hrs members of the Vanderhoof RCMP were called to the Saik’uz First nation after the discovery of some human remains. Officers from the Vanderhoof RCMP met with the Saik’uz First Nation leadership on scene and are keeping them apprised of investigation File #2022-2418.
While the investigation is in the preliminary stages trying to determine how this man died, the RCMP does not believe that criminality was involved in his death. Staff Sergeant Kevin Day, Vanderhoof RCMP Detachment commander is working closely with the BC Coroners Service to identify the individual. In addition to supports from North District Forensic Identification Section, BC Coroners Service, North District General Investigation section, and Major Crime section.”
The Saik’uz Chief and Council wishes to acknowledge the heaviness and mourning felt in the community at this time. They ask those near and far to respect the privacy of the family and friends of the deceased. The Chief, Council, and Saik'uz staff send prayers and kindness to all who have been affected by this tragedy.
